Get Home Safe™ App
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Get Home Safe ("the App", "we", "us") collects when you use the app, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: your name and phone number, verified via SMS through Twilio.
- Profile photo (optional) — helps your emergency contacts recognize your account.
- Emergency contacts you choose to add — their name and phone number.
- Location data — only when you actively use "Share My Location", "Live Share", or Walk Me Home. During a Walk Me Home trip you start, the App continues tracking your location in the background (including with your screen locked) until you arrive or end the trip, along with the destination you choose. We do not track your location when none of these features are on. Because precise location is sensitive information, the App shows you which features require it before you turn one on, and you can disable location sharing at any time from your device settings.
- Usage data — such as which safety timer durations you use, to keep the feature working reliably.
- Subscription status — whether you're on the free Basic Safety tier or the paid Premium tier, managed through Apple's/Google's in-app purchase systems. We do not receive or store your payment card details — those are handled entirely by Apple/Google.
2. How We Use Information
- To verify your identity and let you sign in (via Twilio Verify).
- To operate core safety features: the SOS tab, safety timer, check-in texts, and location sharing you initiate.
- To alert the emergency contacts you've added, only when you trigger that (e.g. a check-in text, an expired safety timer, a live share), or during a Walk Me Home trip you start — for example if you don't answer a check-in, are well past your expected arrival, or the App stops reporting your location.
- To provide and manage your subscription tier.
- To maintain and improve the App's reliability and security.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Twilio, to send SMS verification codes and (when you use those features) check-in/location texts to your emergency contacts.
- Our hosting and database providers (currently Render and MongoDB Atlas), to run the App's backend.
- Your own emergency contacts, only when you use a feature that sends them a message or your location.
- Law enforcement or emergency services, only if you directly contact them yourself (e.g. tapping Call 911) — the App does not automatically transmit your data to any emergency dispatch service.
Text messages. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, other than the providers above that are needed to deliver the messages. Emergency contacts receive safety alert texts only (never marketing); message frequency varies with how the App is used, and message & data rates may apply. A contact can reply STOP to stop receiving texts or HELP for help at any time.
4. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the address below. We will delete your account and associated personal information within 30 days of a verified request, except for any information we are required to keep by law. Walk Me Home trip records (destination and location updates) are deleted automatically within about a day of the trip's last activity.
5. Children's Privacy
Get Home Safe is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing (for example under the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU/UK GDPR). To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and secure token-based authentication. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a security incident affects your personal information, we'll notify you and any relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
